Zoals iedereen inmiddels wel zal weten is 2013 het jaar dat Runrig 40 jaar hoopt te bestaan.

Bekend is inmiddels dat ze dit onder andere gaan vieren met een aantal grootse concerten

We are busy finalising plans for our 40th Anniversary celebrations this summer. The main event, ‘Party on the Moor’ at the Black Isle Show Ground, Muir Of Ord, near Inverness is already proving popular with fans, and there has been an ‘unprecedented’ demand for tickets. We have lots more information coming up soon, and we’re using the Facebook page to communicate much of this information, so please do keep checking it, and tell your friends to join it too!
 
The official anniversary of the band is April 1973, it was our very first gig together at the Function Room of the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow. Despite extensive research and investigation, the precise date that the concert took place still remains a mystery.
 
Now, we are appealing to fans who may have been at the concert, or even have any picture or press cuttings/posters of the event to get in touch.
 
As 2013 is the band’s official 40th Birthday, and we’re really looking forward to the official event at the Black Isle Show Ground, we would also be very keen to celebrate this milestone on the actual date. We  are sure that someone out there knows the actual date of our first gig. Until now our investigations have drawn a blank

On Saturday August 10, we will perform to a capacity crowd of 25,000 at ‘Party on the Moor’ at the Black Isle Show Ground, Muir of Ord (nr Inverness). Gates will open at 3pm. We will be announcing the support acts and special guests in May.
 
Ticket prices start at £45 for the Saturday concert; there are also travel packages for fans travelling from Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Perth and other Scottish towns and cities.

The search is over. After extensive efforts to try and unearth information about the actual date of Runrig’s first gig, we finally have some positive news. We were looking for anybody who might have been present at that first ceilidh – someone who might have taken a photograph – old archives held by the organisers, the North Uist and Bernera Association – old archives kept by the venue, the Kelvin Hall.

Alas, all efforts drew a blank. We knew it was April and we thought it was a Saturday night, and Rory, Calum and Blair certainly remembered turning up in purple shirts and bow ties and calling themselves The Run-Rig Dance Band . . . but nobody knew the date.

However, Highland newspapers back then often included a weekly What’s On in the City or a Letter From Glasgow type column, and as Malcolm was checking out the Oban Times archive one afternoon, last month, he finally had his eureka moment and unearthed the ‘Holy Grail’.

So now we have it – Happy Birthday Runrig – Saturday, April 28th, 1973. To recognise and celebrate the occasion the band are releasing a new song. It’s called And We’ll Sing and it was recorded last month in CaVa Studios, Glasgow. Some of you might remember a version of it ending the last run of shows on the Rewired Tour. We would like to raise a glass and thank you for your incredible support over four decades and we would like to share this song with you all. It will be available on this site on the 28th.

Ja hoor, kan het me nog heel goed herinneren  
Nog steeds kippenvelmomenten.
Na een jaar sabbatical voor het eerst gezien in Odense...dit was een heel goed begin van ons Scandinavië-avontuur vorig jaar.
